Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 3 (ANI): BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday criticized the Tamil Nadu government, alleging poor governance and deteriorating law and order in the state.
She claimed that crimes, including sexual offenses and POCSO cases, were on the rise while the government was attempting to divert public attention.
“In today’s situation in Tamil Nadu, the worst governance is happening. Law and order are not fine, sexual crimes are increasing, and POCSO cases are rising. To hide these issues, an all-party meeting has been convened on a subject (delimitation) that is not even relevant. This is just an attempt to mislead the people of Tamil Nadu. We strongly condemn this,” Soundararajan said.
She urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to address the real issues affecting the state instead of engaging in diversionary tactics.
Various political parties have cornered the government on the Anna University alleged sexual assault case, accusing the DMK government of going slow on the case.
A second-year student of Anna University was reportedly sexually assaulted on the university campus in December, according to Chennai Police. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
In her complaint filed on December 23, the student alleged that an unidentified man had threatened and sexually assaulted her while she was talking to a friend on campus.
Meanwhile, referring to DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s recent remarks on Hindi imposition, Soundararajan dismissed the allegations, stating that no such imposition was happening.
“Udhayanidhi says DMK will never accept Hindi imposition. I have repeatedly said that there is no such imposition, yet they continue to claim so. I ask, did they study in government schools? Are their children studying in government schools? Don’t try to betray government school students,” she added.
On Sunday, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin sounded a strong warning against the central government’s alleged attempts to impose Hindi on the state. He declared that Tamil Nadu would never accept the New Education Policy (NEP) and Hindi imposition in any form.
Stalin emphasised that the state’s Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has made it clear that Tamil Nadu rejects the NEP, delimitation, and Hindi imposition. He accused the central government of trying to “impose Hindi sideways” and through the NEP.
“The Tamil Nadu CM is the person who has brought the Metro Railway project to Chennai. The CM said three things recently: we don’t accept NEP, we won’t accept delimitation, and we won’t accept Hindi imposition. Today, the central is trying to impose the Hindi language sideways. The Centre is directly trying to impose Hindi through the New Education Policy. Tamil Nadu will never accept the New Education Policy and Hindi imposition in any manner. We (DMK) are not feared by Central Government threats because the current regime is DMK, not AIADMK. The current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister is MK Stalin, not Edappadi Palaniswami (AIADMK Chief and Former CM)…” said Udhayanidhi Stalin (ANI)
