Patna (Bihar) [India], April 18 (ANI): Amid growing debate, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha responded to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s criticism of the judiciary, saying “we need to think with a sensitive approach” across all pillars of democracy.
Speaking to ANI, Jha said, “We are in an era of politics where we need to think with sensitivity. Whether it is the executive, legislature, judiciary, or media, there has to be a fine balance…”
Sibal’s reaction follows Dhankhar’s comments, which appeared to criticise the judiciary for overstepping its bounds. VP Dhankar had stated that “Article 142 has become a nuclear missile against Democratic forces, available to the judiciary 24 x 7.”
Speaking at the Valedictory Function of the sixth Rajya Sabha Internship Programme at the Vice-President’s Enclave, Dhankhar proposed an amendment to Article 145(3), which deals with the composition of the bench required to decide substantial questions of constitutional law.
He further stated that a structured platform will be established to provide the public with comprehensive and authentic information on legislative activities in the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
He also reacted to the alleged discovery of cash at Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Verma’s house, underlining that no FIR has been registered against Justice Varma. Dhankar stated that a case can be filed against anyone in the country, but special permission is required if a judge is to be booked.
Sharing his thoughts on the recent violence in Murshidabad, Jha emphasised the importance of non-violence and democratic methods. “Normalcy must be restored in Murshidabad. This nation has a culture of resistance, but it should be Gandhian. Gandhi ji gave ‘satyagrah’ and Ambedkar Ji gave legal petitions; both of these should be used. Whoever dies in violence is an Indian citizen…”, he said.
A team of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) arrived in West Bengal’s Malda on Friday. The team is scheduled to visit the violence-hit areas of Murshidabad and Malda following protests over the Waqf Amendment Act in the state earlier in the month.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose arrived at Sealdah Railway Station on Friday and boarded a train to Malda to visit areas affected by recent violence.
After reaching Malda, the Governor is scheduled to proceed to the Circuit House, from where he will visit the locations impacted by the violence in the district. Following his inspection in Malda, Governor Bose will be travelling to Murshidabad to assess the situation in that district as well.
On April 11, during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which resulted in the deaths of three people, injuries to several others, and widespread property damage. Several families have been displaced, with many migrating to Jharkhand’s Pakur district, while others have taken refuge in relief camps set up in Malda.
On Thursday, the Calcutta High Court stated that central forces will remain in Murshidabad for some time to maintain law and order and said that the court will monitor the restoration and rehabilitation of victims.
The court also ordered officials from the BJP, TMC, and others not to make provocative speeches that could escalate tensions. (ANI)
