Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 23 (ANI): Two people have been arrested for allegedly issuing threats of acid attack to a woman on social media, according to the police.
“We received information on July 21, that a woman was being issued threats of acid attack on social media platform. Based on this information, the Assistant Police Commissioner, Sadar, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nagar Agar, took immediate cognizance of the matter.”
“Considering the seriousness of the matter, a Special Operations Group (SOG) and Civil Police Team were formed at the Sadar Police Station to solve the case,” said police.
Following this, the police arrested both accused within a span of 12 hours on Monday.
Sharing details about the case, police said that during the investigation, it was discovered that a man identified as Himanshu Chahar had given a contract to another identified as Abhishek Bhandari through social media to carry out the acid attack in exchange of money.
It was discovered in the investigation that the contract giver was a resident of Taraganj in Agra and had asked the other accused to carry out the attack because the woman had rejected his love proposal.
Taking immediate action on the threats of throwing acid on the woman on social media, the joint police team of Thana Sadar, SOG and Surveillance arrested both the accused within 12 hours.
The prompt action by the Uttar Pradesh Police averted a potential acid attack and thereby saved the life of the woman.
The police have registered a case against both accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
