Agartala (Tripura) [India], July 21 (ANI): Border Security Force (BSF) seized 10,000 yaba tablets worth Rs 50 lakh in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, officials said on Sunday.
On specific information, a special operation was launched by BSF in Srimantapur, Sonamura, under Sepahijala district, in which one suspected Indian smuggler was apprehended. 10,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 50 lakh and an electric autorickshaw were seized, the BSF said in a statement on Sunday.
The apprehended person along with seized items have been handed over to the police for further investigation, the BSF said, adding that BSF troops are on high alert at the border to prevent transborder crimes.
Earlier, BSF troops foiled a major smuggling attempt of contraband items by Bangladeshi smugglers in Boxanagar.
BSF troops fired non-lethal weapons in self-defence when BD smugglers didn’t pay heed to the warning from BSF, tried to encircle and attack the troops on duty, and further attempted to smuggle the goods forcefully.
On being fired, BD smugglers fled the place, leaving behind huge quantities of sugar.
It is reliably learned that two Bangladeshi smugglers got pellet injuries and are undergoing treatment in a hospital in Bangladesh. (ANI)
