Patna (Bihar) [India], November 9 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav mocked BJP National President JP Nadda’s visit to Bihar on Friday on the occasion of Chhath Puja festival and said that the latter had come to check on CM Nitish Kumar.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav said, “They are here to see whether the CM (Nitish Kumar) is fine or not.”
Yadav also took a dig at the ruling BJP at the Centre in the backdrop of the eighth anniversary of demonetization on Friday, November 8.
Calling it a “big day”, the RJD leader offered “tributes to those who lost their lives during demonetization.”
“You all might have forgotten but today is the demonetization anniversary. We pay tribute to all those who lost their lives during demonetization,” he said.
He accused the BJP of corruption and alleged that “nothing has happened” even after the promises to stop black money.
“Big talks were made when demonetization was implied in the country. They said corruption, politics and black money would end, but today even after such a long time nothing has happened. Today, BJP has made big buildings with their money, it is probably black money,” Yadav said.
On November 8, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an unprecedented move announced the government’s decision to scrap the then-existing Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes with immediate effect. New Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes were introduced during this period.
The decision of demonetization was taken to weed out the black money in the country and nudge people to change their method of payment from cash to digital.
The sudden decision to scrap the currency notes led to several issues including a liquidity shortage with people standing outside banks in queues for long hours.
This resulted in several people being jobless and created a devastating unemployment situation in the country with the informal sector being the worst hit.
Since 2016, several opposition parties have been highly critical of the government’s move, however, BJP members and its allies have backed the decision. (ANI)
