New Delhi [India], March 26 (ANI): Actor Varun Sharma has voiced his support for the ‘One Nation One Election’ initiative, urging people to educate themselves about the proposal.
Addressing an awareness event in the national capital on Wednesday, Sharma emphasized the importance of gathering knowledge and discussing the subject with peers and family.
Expressing his views on the initiative while speaking to ANI, Sharma said, “I think it’s a great initiative. I have been reading about this for the past two to three months. I think we should acquire more and more knowledge about it, we should read up on it. The more we talk about it, the more it will be taken forward.”
He further highlighted that a synchronized election system could enhance efficiency and save time for both the government and the citizens.
“We have been taught since childhood that time is the most valuable thing. I am sure that when this is consolidated, a lot of time will be saved for everyone, including the government,” he added.
On the same day, BJP MP Bhartuhari Mahtab reflected on the recent all-party meeting that was convened to discuss the One Nation One Election proposal. Terming it a productive session, Mahtab said that legal experts had explained the subject comprehensively.
“Today’s meeting was fruitful, and many issues were discussed. The former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court and the Attorney General of India explained the entire issue very well,” Mahtab said.
Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday approved the extension of the tenure of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on One Nation, One Election until the first day of the last week of the Monsoon Session in 2025.
JPC Chairman PP Chaudhary moved the motion, seeking additional time to finalize the report on two key bills: The Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024 and The Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
The JPC, which convened on Tuesday, heard representations from Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani and Justice D.N. Patel, former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court and current Chairperson of the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). The session focused on the legal aspects and implications of implementing One Nation, One Election.
The next JPC sitting is scheduled for April 2, where further discussions will take place with two more eminent personalities. (ANI)
