Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 15 (ANI): The death toll from the tragic Meerut building collapse has risen to 10. District Magistrate Deepak Meena announced that financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh per deceased and Rs. 1.20 lakh for reconstruction is being provided to the victims’ families.
Deepak Meena stated, “The post-mortem of the deceased is underway, and soon the bodies will be handed over to their families. Financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh per deceased from the natural calamity fund and Rs. 1.20 lakh for the reconstruction of homes that were completely destroyed is being arranged. Compensation for animals killed in the incident is also being processed.”
He further explained that on September 14, at around 4:30 pm, a three-storey concrete house in Zakir Colony, under the Lohianagar police station area of Meerut district, suddenly collapsed due to heavy rains.
“As soon as the information was received, the District Administration, Police Department, Fire Brigade, Medical Department, and Municipal Corporation began relief and rescue operations to save those trapped under the debris. SDRF teams from Amroha and Saharanpur, as well as the NDRF team from Ghaziabad, were called in for the rescue operation. Family members reported that 15 people were inside the house. Following the rescue efforts, 10 people were confirmed dead, while 5 were found alive,” he added.
Among the 10 deceased, eight were females and two males.
A senior police official confirmed that the building collapse has resulted in 10 deaths, with five individuals currently receiving treatment in hospital. The incident site has been sealed, and search and rescue operations are ongoing to ensure no survivors remain trapped in the debris.
The injured are being treated in hospital, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for further medical procedures, including post-mortem. (ANI)
