Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], April 22 (ANI): The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday approved a series of significant measures aimed at bolstering development, infrastructure, and administrative reform measures across various departments.
According to an official release, the Cabinet cleared eight key decisions during the meeting, reflecting the state’s focus on rural upliftment, judicial efficiency, labour reforms, and infrastructure expansion.
The Cabinet sanctioned the establishment of a memorial and women’s training centre in honour of social reformer Gyanjyoti Savitribai Phule at Mouje Naigaon in in Khandala taluka of Satara district. The government will allocate Rs 142.60 crore for the memorial and an additional Rs 67.17 lakh for the training centre, which is aimed at empowering women through skill development initiatives.
In a major infrastructure decision, the Water Resources Department received revised administrative approval for the Gosikhurd National Project in Bhandara district. The Cabinet greenlit a substantial outlay of Rs 25,972.69 crore for the irrigation project, reaffirming its importance to the state’s agricultural development.
The Labour Department was authorised to prepare a comprehensive Maharashtra Labour Code by amending existing state labour laws and aligning them with contemporary industry and worker needs.
Under the Revenue Department’s decision, the honorarium of contractual legal officers serving in the offices of Divisional Commissioners and District Collectors has been increased from Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000.
The Cabinet also extended the tenure of 16 additional courts and 23 fast-track courts by two more years under the Law and Justice Department. These courts were initially set up through the 14th Finance Commission to expedite pending cases.
To boost the fisheries sector, the Cabinet declared it would be accorded the same priority status as agriculture. This move will include providing necessary infrastructure and granting concessions to promote fishing and aquaculture.
In the Housing sector, a policy amendment was approved for slum rehabilitation schemes impacted by infrastructure development. The revised policy aims to ensure fair housing allocation for displaced residents.
Lastly, the Public Works Department received approval for constructing a four-lane elevated road and a parallel four-lane ground road from Talegaon to Chakan, and a six-lane ground road from Chakan to Shikrapur, all part of the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur National Highway in Pune district.
These wide-ranging decisions underscore the Maharashtra government’s focus on balanced development and administrative reforms across sectors.
Earlier this week on April 19, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that his government aims to establish a comprehensive healthcare network in the state so that quality healthcare is available to every person in the society.
Chief Minister Fadnavis was addressing the 22nd edition of the Mumbai Live Endoscopy 2025 event.
CM Devendra Fadnavis called for collaborative efforts to provide quality healthcare in remote areas of Maharashtra and stressed the need for a large number of doctors and health workers to reach the last person in society.
Earlier this week, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Maharashtra government made the teaching of Hindi compulsory as a third language from Class 1 in all state board schools, alongside Marathi and English.
Rahul Ashok Rekhawar, Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Maharashtra, said that the decision was taken by the School Education Department on April 16.
“On behalf of the Maharashtra Government, the School Education Department has made a decision that teaching Hindi along with Marathi and English has been made compulsory from class 1 in all the schools in the state board. This decision has been made with all the appointments and their development in view, and the students will definitely benefit from it,” Rekhawar told ANI.
He clarified that the move is solely for educational purposes and not driven by any political or community agenda. (ANI)
