Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 15 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party MP Jagdambika Pal on Tuesday alleged that the ongoing violence in West Bengal is happening under the protection of the Mamata Banerjee-led state government and called for the imposition of President’s Rule of law and order is not restored.
“The way the violence is increasing in West Bengal shows that all this is happening under the protection of Mamata government… The police are doing nothing,” Pal told reporters.
He claimed that the violence appears to be organised and state-sponsored.
“This seems to be state-sponsored violence… Who will protect the people when the government has become the one who is promoting violence?” he said.
Referring to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent remarks on the Waqf Act, Pal said the CM’s stance is encouraging unrest.
“The CM (Mamata Banerjee) said that she would not let the Waqf Act be implemented in the state, and the people are being provoked by her statement, after which the violence is increasing,” the BJP MP stated.
He further asserted that if the state administration fails to control the situation and protect citizens’ rights, the central government must intervene.
“President rule should be implemented in the state if the state government is not able to safeguard the rights of the people,” Pal said.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi alleged on Tuesday that the ruling Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal seems to be held “hostage to those orchestrating criminal conspiracies” in Murshidabad where three people have lost their lives in violence during protest over the Waqf Amendment Act, and many others were forced to leave their houses for safer places
“They (TMC government) said that 30 per cent cannot be chased away but is allowing 70 per cent to run away. This is unacceptable to any State or any country. It is unfortunate that this government seems to be held hostage to those orchestrating criminal conspiracies and is promoting and protecting such people. And ignoring their actions. It is in itself a serious matter,” Naqvi told ANI, holding the TMC government responsible for the Murshidabad violence.
Earllier, the security forces had set up a relief camp in West Bengal’s Malda for those who were forced to leave their houses in Samserganj-Dhuliyan areas of Murshidabad after violence broke out there during the protest against the Waqf Amendment Act on April 11.
Lalchand Mandal, who is staying in the relief camp after he left the violence-hit area on Saturday requested that the government to bring peace back to the region.
“We came here on Saturday. Everything in our house was set on fire. We came here for shelter. If this violence happens again, how will we be able to go back to our homes? We want peace, we request the government to bring back peace there,” he said.
The violence in the region has left many without homes or livelihoods, and the residents are looking to the government to restore order and ensure their safety.
Officials said the situation in Dhuliyan town in the Jangipur subdivision of the Murshidabad district is under control.
Security personnel, including the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have been deployed in the area, and authorities have stated that the situation is now under control. (ANI)
