Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], April 20 (ANI): Congress leader and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Sunday launched a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey for his remarks against the Supreme Court, after the top court halted the implementation of certain provisions in the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
“This is an attack on the entire judicial system, an attack on the Constitution. They have attacked the Chief Justice, and other judges. They are working as a squad for the BJP, which attacks and creates terror in the minds of people. This is an attempt to intimidate the judiciary,” Rawat told ANI on Sunday.
Rawat said that the BJP understands already that there are certain unconstitutional provisions in the recently passed Waqf Amendments
“It seems that the BJP understands that there are some unconstitutional elements in the Waqf (Amendment) Act. People will stop believing in the judiciary. This is the country that people fought for many years, but when the Ram Janmabhoomi case came before the Supreme Court then people accepted that decision too. Some people accepted with happiness, some with muted reactions, or with anger, but they accepted it” he said.
Challenging BJP President JP Nadda to be honest about the party distancing from the state, he demanded the expulsion of Dubey from the party.
“When people protested, then Nadda sahab gave this statement, a cover up. If they want to give a message then they should have expelled the people. If there is any honesty in JP Nadda’s statement (tweet on Dubey’s statement), which is not expected, then the BJP MP should be expelled from his post. So that the Judiciary cannot take a decision on it, you are attacking them,” Rawat said.
Earlier on Saturday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey had claimed that Supreme Court was “inciting religious wars” and questioned its authority, suggesting that the Parliament building should be closed if the apex court was to make laws.
“The top court has only one aim: ‘Show me the face, and I will show you the law’. The Supreme Court is going beyond its limits. If one has to go to the Supreme Court for everything, then Parliament and State Assembly should be shut,” Dubey told ANI.
He referred the court’s past decision, criticising the decriminalisation of homosexuality.
“There was an Article 377 in which homosexuality was a big crime. The Trump administration has said that there are only two sexes in this world, either male or female…Whether it is Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, Jain or Sikh, all believe that homosexuality is a crime. One fine morning, the Supreme Court said that we should abolish this case,” he said.
Dubey further alleged that the Supreme Court want to take this country towards “anarchy.”
However, the BJP has rejected the statement of Dubey, with party president JP Nadda saying that “The Bharatiya Janata Party has nothing to do with the statements made by BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Dinesh Sharma on the judiciary and the Chief Justice of the country.”
Calling them “personal statements,” Nadda added in a post, “These are their personal statements, but the BJP neither agrees with nor supports such statements. The BJP completely rejects these statements.” (ANI)
