Guwahati (Assam) [India] August 15 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday raised his grave concerns regarding the safety and security of the Hindu minorities in violence-hit Bangladesh.
Speaking after hoisting the National Flag on the occasion of the nation’s 78th Independence Day at Khanapara Veterinary College field in Guwahati, CM Sarma said, “While we are standing under the tricolour National flag and celebrating Independence Day, my thoughts are with the minority community people in Bangladesh.”
Expressing his deep sympathy for the affected minority community people of Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, and Jain faiths in Bangladesh, CM Sarma said, “I am deeply worried about their future.”
“No one had wanted the partition of Bharat, all had participated in the freedom movement. The Hindu people of Pakistan and Bangladesh (East Pakistan) also fought for an ‘Akhanda Bharat’. At that time the leadership had surrendered before the Moulabadi (fundamentalist) and a section of people who wanted partition and within a night the Indian Hindus had become Bangladeshi Hindu and Pakistani Hindus. At a time when we are celebrating Independence Day, I express my concerns about the Hindu people in Bangladesh. I believe that the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will provide security to the Hindu people in Bangladesh. I express my deepest condolences to the Hindu people who lost their lives in recent violence in Bangladesh,” CM Sarma said.
Praising the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police for their relentless efforts in ensuring that no one unauthorised Bangladeshi national crossed the border and entered Assam and India amidst the turmoil situation in Bangladesh CM Sarma said that to protect the border is our “constitutional duty”.
“At the same time I request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take all possible diplomatic measures to protect the Hindu people in Bangladesh,” CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Assam Chief Minister also praised the Independence Day Speech of PM Narendra Modi which emphasised the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047.
“Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji’s 11th Independence Day address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort espoused the confidence of a New Bharat as well as recalled the contributions of the ones who sacrificed their lives for independence. It laid down a roadmap for the future of a Bharat where equality, equity and growth will drive the nation forward. It also had a word of reassurance for our women and the Hindus in Bangladesh. On this special occasion, we rededicate ourselves to the cause of a Viksit Bharat,” the Assam CM said. (ANI)
