Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 24 (ANI): Amid nationwide mourning in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday asserted that the decisions taken by the Union Government in the wake of the attack would put the final nail in the coffin for terrorism.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister was addressing mediapersons following his meeting with the family of Shubham Dwivedi of Kanpur, who was one of the 26 innocent victims who lost their lives in the attack.
Expressing his condemnation, Adityanath termed the attack a cowardly act and emphasised that such incidents would not be tolerated in India.
“On April 22, a terrorist attack took place in J&K’s Pahalgam in which one person from Kanpur was killed. Shubham Dwivedi got married two months ago, and he was killed in the terror attack there. This is a very cowardly attack by the terrorists and shows that terrorism is on its last breath… This type of incident is not acceptable in a country like India… The actions of the central government will put the last nail in the coffin of terrorism,” he said, adding that the Union Home Minister Amit Shah had already inspected the areas affected by the attack, and further steps will be taken to address the issue of terrorism.
On meeting with the grieving family of Shubham Dwivedi, Adityanath expressed his condolences and assured them that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators of the attack.
“I have met with the family of Shubham Dwivedi… The family is in grief. I pray the soul rests in peace. The country stands with them. I also assure you that the accused in this horrific incident will not be spared, and stringent action will be taken against them,” he stated.
Chief Minister Adityanath further reiterated the government’s policy of zero tolerance against terrorism.
Shubham Dwivedi, the only son of his parents, was among the 26 victims of the terror attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22. The attack, which left several others injured, has shaken the nation, with numerous leaders and organisations condemning the violence.
The grieving wife of Shubham Dwivedi, Eshanaay, shared her heartbreaking account of the incident, recalling that they were having a meal when a man approached them and enquired about their religion before shooting Dwivedi.
“We gave an order for Maggi, then Shubham and I sat down. Dad was in the bathroom. At that time, one person came from behind and he asked, ‘Are you a Hindu or Muslim?’ If you are a Muslim, then you first read the Kalma’. We didn’t even know; we looked back to see what was happening,” Eshanaay said.
“They asked me whether he is Hindu or muslim, I told them Hindu; they killed him. The first shot was on him,” she added.
A pall of gloom descended on Kanpur when the body of Shubham reached his native village in Kanpur on Thursday morning. Sanjay Dwivedi, father of the victim, is still grappling with the sorrow of his lost son.
The attack, carried out by terrorists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on Tuesday, is one of the deadliest in the Valley since the 2019 Pulwama strike in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed. The attack was one of the biggest terror attacks in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. (ANI)
