Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], November 23 (ANI): Congress Maharashtra election in-charge Ramesh Chennithala on Saturday expressed strong scepticism over the results of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, calling them “unbelievable” and did not match the public sentiments.
Chennithala questioned the outcomes, which saw a decisive victory for the Mahayuti alliance, saying that they contradicted the predictions of exit polls that anticipated a close contest between the Mahayuti and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
Speaking at a Congress press conference, Chennithala said, “The results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections are unbelievable and are not acceptable as they don’t match the public sentiments. The exit polls also predicted a close fight between Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi. How can we believe the Maharashtra Assembly election results?”
He further noted issues like unemployment, inflation, and corruption in Maharashtra and reiterated that the public voted in favour of Maha Vikas Aghadi.
“There are problems of unemployment, inflation, corruption. Do all these problems end with the Ladli Behna Yojana? In the Lok Sabha elections, the public of Maharashtra voted in favour of Maha Vikas Aghadi,”
He said that the Congress will look “into the result” and refused to believe the loss of big leaders like Prithviraj Chavan, Dhiraj Deshmukh, Yugendra Pawar, Fahad Ahmad, Krishnarao Parshram Patil of the MVA alliance.
“We will look into the results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections. Many big leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi lost the elections. The public will not accept the results of Maharashtra Assembly elections,” Chennithala said.
Earlier today, Congress leaders Pawan Khera and Jairam Ramesh raised questions over the outcome in Maharashtra where BJP and its allies Shiv Sena and NCP are heading for a landslide victory.
Jairam Ramesh said somewhere “there is a conspiracy” to defeat the Congress.
Pawan Khera said BJP suffered a setback in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha polls about five months back and raised questions over BJP’s strike rate in Maharashtra assembly polls.
“The Lok Sabha election was fought in the name of Modi ji in Maharashtra, BJP lost it. The same state gives the same BJP 132 out of 148 seats within 4-5 months. What kind of strike rate is this? …Is this strike rate possible? Democracy is our concern. Electoral transparency is our concern. Can the BJP reverse anti-incumbency? We complained continuously. Jairam Ramesh had complained about the name being deleted from the Election Commission’s website from the house of a woman BJP leader. All the leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi had complained. No answer was given,” he said.
In Maharashtra, the BJP led the Mahayuti alliance to a smashing victory carrying its allies – Shiv Sena and NCP – with its momentum.
According to Election Commission data, the BJP has won or is leading in 132 seats. Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has won or is leading in 57 seats, while the NCP, led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, is poised to win 41 seats. The state has 288 assembly constituencies. (ANI)
